My personal wine experience is very minimal. It started with little sips here and there as a kid, often followed by dramatic gags and asking my parents why they would ever drink something that tasted like vinegar. My biggest exposure for the first 16 years of my life was sips of heavy purple wine at church, followed along with the mini crackers during communion. After this friends and I would sneak whatever we could during sleepovers, and this would include my least favorite vinegary wine that I drank anyway to try and see if I could expand my ever-growing adult palette. I could never make myself finish a glass though. Sparkling wine was a favorite of mine to try during New Year celebrations because it meant I didn't have to only drink the sparkling grape juice (still love it though). It was bubbly and fun and tasted better than previous drinks I had tried.
College is where I really began my alcohol/wine "journey". It was never crazy but I had a lot of fun figuring out what works best for me. I have some medical stuff where I can't drink a lot but I can try things in moderation so that's been my mission, finding my favorite fun drink. So far I am more of a cocktail person; I enjoy Moscow mules, margaritas...stuff like that. However, recently my roommate and I have started trying wine together. Light, sweet stuff like Moscato or Rose.
Any exposure is good but for the longest time I had no interest in wine. If it didn't taste good, even if it had the cool factor of being an "adult drink", I wouldn't drink it. I like trying new things though so that is why I am taking this class. I am hoping to expand my taste-buds further by learning how to appreciate other wines. My goal is to enjoy red wine by the end of this!
